Tummy tuck negligence leaves patient distraught

Following a complex history of gynaecological issues and numerous procedures, Miss B was very unhappy with the appearance of her stomach.

Miss B decided to take the necessary steps to rectify her dissatisfaction and was listed for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery). The purpose of which was to improve her scarring and the overhang caused by her caesarean scar.

Miss B was extremely excited at this prospect however post-operatively, her umbilicus was positioned very high; at the top of her rib cage.

A revision procedure was performed however this did not provide satisfactory results. Miss B suffered a lack of confidence and self-esteem which had a knock-on effect on her everyday life.

Axiclaim’s solicitors acted for Miss B in bringing a clinical negligence claim against the hospital trust alleging sub-standard surgical technique.

Following receipt of supportive expert evidence, a Letter of Claim was submitted and in their response, the trust accepted the umbilicus was not within natural range.

Within 13 months a settlement was achieved in the region of £18,000.

Miss B was extremely satisfied with this result. The money meant she could arrange for revision surgery to lower the position of the umbilicus in the hope she could re-gain her self-confidence and achieve a satisfactory result.
